Play as Work– #ThrowbackThursday

November 20, 2014 - Today's ‪#‎tbt‬ photo is one of my favorites because it really encapsulates the approach that my Mom took to training my brothers and I.  Mom, I am so thankful for how you emphasized that even our play was a training ground for real life. Thank you for all that you've done to prepare my brothers and I for life, and for your continued support as we prepare to someday raise our own sons.

1998 - At ages 2 and 4, Benjamin and I pulled our battery powered jeep into the garage, set up a work light, jacked up the car, and got our hands on a socket set.

2008 - Disassembling an engine with Ken and Nathaniel Bauwens.
I'm so thankful for the men in my life who took the time to mentor my brothers and I.

Lydia & Lucy

This week we watched Megan’s little puppy, Lucy.  She’s a mix of poodle and maltese and she is really curly and cute. Mom really liked Lucy’s sweet temperament and her willingness to snuggle; she offered to just keep her, but Megan emphatically declined.

Lydia got along with Lucy better than any other dog she’s ever met and they had a good time playing with each other as you can see in the video above. Whenever they got tired from playing they’d snuggle with one another.

Playing in the River

IMG_8842

We (or really “they) drove down to a park today where we used to spend a lot of our time playing throughout the summer with the Marler family.  Megan was with us and she and Noah had a good time digging up clay.

….but I am the most daring-Andrew with a mouse in his hand.”

I can’t vouch for the fact that they all had fun, I stayed home today and got a lot of work done-plus I am pretty good at taking out the dog.  But just to show you I’ve had my fair share of river water fun here’s a picture of us and the Marler family at St. Francis State Park in 2005.

Nov 5-Fun in the Sun

November 5

We had a lot of fun today though it started with a bit of a surprise.  We felt two small earthquakes and reported it in.

It was another pretty chilly day with the high in the 60s + the wind chill, but it didn’t really stop us from swimming. However, after we came out of the water we were nearly frozen as we tried to walk through the wind back to the house.

Costumes for a short play

The Wong brothers put on a play this evening.

And the moral of the story?
The way of the transgressor is hard...

Just a little bit silly...
