Music @ the Jones

IMG_1110  This evening we gathered with friends at the Jones home for dinner and to play some music together.  It’s so much fun to get two musical families together like the Thomases and the Jones.  We played a couple hymns and some worship songs.
Afterthought: Would’ve been fun to have some video.

It was great to hear Mr. Thomas on the drums…
He brought his drum kit all the way up from OK!

Later we switched up the instruments playing.  In this song, Ashley is on the piano, Michael is on the violin and yours truly is playing the acoustic.

I was finally coaxed into playing my guitar, but with great reluctance.  It was really my first time ever playing my guitar with anyone, whether that be vocals or other instruments.  It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience.  Since then I’ve been trying to practice with other people and I play with Kate throughout the week.
I seem to have a hard time finding the rhythm of a song, but I can usually follow along with someone who has.  Also, after playing solo guitar for so long, I tend to go into full right-brainer mode and don’t stick to a consistent number of beats or stick with the chord structure or a strumming pattern!  Trying to work on that Smile

Jamming @ the LaMotte’s

IMG_9490

It was great to finally get back together with the LaMotte family!  Nathan, who’s very experienced on the piano, recently picked up the guitar, so it was a lot of fun to bring my guitar over and play together.  Thanks for sharing your blues-style chords with me Nathan!

Caleb also started learning how to play the ukulele within the last month, so our little acoustic trio played a few songs together.

We also played a long-expected, mega game of Nerf together.  The darts were flying everywhere!

Thank you so much, LaMotte family, for such a great, fun evening and for a yummy dinner/dessert!

boy like me, Man Like You - 20,000 Views

Well, I thought I ‘d repost this video we made from more than 4 years ago.  It has 20,000 views on YouTube which really isn’t that many views for YouTube, but when we we were out in the yard filming it never would’ve entered our heads that thousands would watch it online.

Here’s what I wrote when I posted this on the blog July 25, 2007:

boy like me, Man like You is one of the very first videos we made; I was 12. This song is from Rich Mullins and is a favorite of ours. Throughout this video you'll see moving shots where the camera is "rolling." We don't own a dolly so we improvised with a wagon.
While I held the camera Benjamin pulled me around the yard. Oh the life of a cameraman!
As you'll see the ride was pretty bumpy!
(No, Noah isn't related to Rich Mullins.)

16-Musical Evening

When we got back home after church we had an evening full of music.

I got a guitar for my 15th birthday almost 2 years ago and have played it every week that we’ve been in town since then.  Mom can play the piano and Kate can really, really play the piano, but unfortunately the piano’s out of tune and we’ve never been able to play together.
We picked out some of our favorite songs and hymns for me to learn to play and for the rest of us to sing…should be interesting!
